Even as the Brazilian federal government considers a bill that would effectively legalize goldmining and other extractive industries in Indigenous territories across Brazil, the Kayapo Indigenous people have continued to safeguard 23 million acres of their rainforest and savanna territory in the southeastern region of the Brazilian Amazon. Not only does the bill put the Kayapo and other Indigenous cultures and livelihoods at severe risk, but it also endangers countless animals and plants and one of the world’s most important expanses of rainforest for climate regulation. #kayapocourage #amazon
