In a letter to local activists, three global manufacturing companies--BMW Group, Tetra Pak and Schuco International--have signaled their concern over the use of bauxite sourced from Ghana’s #Atewa Forest for aluminium. Bauxite mining would have catastrophic and irreversible effects on the people and wildlife that depend on the forest, including the more than 5 million Ghanaians that depend on Atewa Forest as their source of clean drinking water. The letter puts additional pressure on the government of Ghana to make the right choice--protect Atewa as a national park to the benefit of the communities that depend on it, the wildlife that live here, and the health of our planet overall! 

“Some of the world’s larger corporations are making it clear that they see a bigger value in protecting Atewa than in destroying it,” said Russ Mittermeier, Re:wild Chief Conservation Officer. “Ghana now has an opportunity here to show global leadership in wildlife and wildlands conservation in a year when it is absolutely vital we make headway in addressing the twin crises of climate change and species extinction.”
